About our cause

The Norfolk Hospice is committed to providing outstanding care for people in the local community living with life-shortening illnesses and to their carers, families, and friends including bereavement support.

It supports an area covering 550 square miles covering some 300,000 residents.

The support provided is tailored to the individual, encompassing their physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs in an understanding, caring and compassionate way, ensuring dignity is maintained throughout.

Support is delivered by experienced professionals who are assisted by a team of dedicated volunteers. A large range of therapies and services are offered to individuals in our Day Therapy Unit. These include physiotherapy, circuit exercises, gardening therapy, complementary therapies, hair and beauty, creative therapies, breathlessness management, fatigue management, Home Sits, and weekly social coffee mornings.

Our Specialist Palliative Care Social Worker can help with a wide range of issues, including financial advice, emotional support and advanced care planning. Alongside the Social Worker, our chaplain, counsellors and trained volunteers provide support to patients and families during times of illness and following bereavement.

Alongside this, our Hospice at Home service supports people during the last 6-8 weeks of life, in their own homes, which is where they choose to be, ensuring that individuals experience the end of life that they choose.

The Dr. Hugh Ford Inpatient Unit has nine ensuite bedrooms, designed to provide patients’ privacy and dignity. The aim of this unit is to provide support and care to patients with a wide range of symptoms associated with a life-shortening illness. A team of nurses and nursing assistants provide high-quality nursing and medical care. Care is delivered both at the Hospice in Hillington and in people’s own homes.

The current services cost over £2million per year to run and only 35% of this is funded by the NHS, with the majority coming from local groups, businesses and individuals. To support our funding we also provide one self-funded bed for short periods of respite care.
